Background

Background—Alaska Biomedical Partnership for the Research and Education Pipeline (BioPREP) began in 2008 and is funded by a National Institutes of Health Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA). Alaska BioPREP is composed of five main programs targeting high school students and teachers throughout the state of Alaska. Three of these programs are offered in the summer and include the Alaska Summer Research Academy (ASRA) Biomedicine and Genetics modules; Jurassic Genetics: North Slope Edition; and Rural Alaska Honors Institute (RAHI) Research. Currently, there are SIXTEEN schools throughout Alaska participating in the TIPS program.

Mission

Alaska BioPREP seeks to engage both high school students and teachers in molecular biology research in order to prepare students for the rigors of university-level scientific inquiry. By working directly with high school students and teachers, Alaska BioPREP fosters a safe, fulfilling and academically enriching environment.
